Terry Crews designed the Float Tables and Aire Benches to compliment the Ibis Sofa and Lilypad Lounge for the Terry Crews Collection in 2017. In developing these minimal table bases, there was a strong focus on the quality and squareness of welds. A lot of energy was put into keeping the structure as hidden as possible to maintain the sense of weightlessness as intended by the artist. Initial prototypes before vendor sourcing began was completed by yours truly.
These minimalist bases required cleverly sourced glides and a low profile method of attachment to the top in order to maintain its delicate appearance.
Available in black powder coat and polished bases.
The man, the myth.
An extension of the Float Tables, the Aire Benches uses the same profiles yet is a padded, upholstered surface. The bases are specific to the Aire Bench to maintain standard bench sit height and consist of a more robust frame to support the weight of an individual perched.
In order to maintain the top bevel detail while supplying enough cushion for sitting, there were a few rounds of explorative prototypes to nail down foam densities and thicknesses.
